Art Department News:

Congratulations to all the students who had exhibitions in First Friday’s art shows.  There were some amazing displays, keep up the good work!

THE NETHERLANDS IN JANUARY:

Informational meeting for travel abroad to Amsterdam and other Dutch cities in January 2006. Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 19 October 2005, 5:30-6:00 p.m. in Fine Arts 304. Please contact Valerie Hedquist at valerie.hedquist@umontana.edu if you cannot attend this first meeting.

Students: be aware that Advising will begin October 24th for Spring Semester.  You must meet with your advisor in order to recieve your advising PIN for registration.  A list of students and their advisors is posted outside the Art Department’s offices. 

The Art Department would like to thank all the students who participated in this semester’s BFA review.  Students will be informed of the results by Monday, October 17th.

The UC Gallery is now accepting proposals for solo and group exhibitions of contemporary fine art in all mediums, including digital and video art.  A selection committee will review slides and select the exhibitions for the 2006 academic year.  Interested artists can print a copy of the application, required material list, and gallery map from the website www.umt.edu/uc  Applications are also available in the UC at The Sourse or outside the Art Department’s offices.  Contact Christine or Ben at the UC Gallery for more Information at 243-4991 or e-mail ucartgallery@mso.umt.edu THE DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 4th

The Gallery of Visual Arts will be exhibiting Brandon Reintjes’ “Ribbonline Constructions,? Alcia Bailey’s “Secernere,? and Joan MacDonald’s “Final Draft? from Sept. 30 to Oct. 28th. You can contact the Gallery of Visual Arts at gallery.visarts@umontana.edu for more information.

The UC Gallery will be hosting the works of Ebony Patterson from Sept. 26 to October 21st.  The opening reception will be Friday, Oct 7 from 5-7pm.  Be sure to check this one out, Ms. Patterson was recently awarded the title of “Jamaica’s top artist under the age of 40.?

The Montana Museum of Art & Culture, in partnership with Montana PBS, hosts the exhibition Photographing Montana 1894 – 1928:  The World of Evelyn Cameron in the Paxson Gallery of the UM PARTV Building.

Evelyn Cameron was an extraordinary woman pioneer who left behind an unrivaled legacy – thousands of photographic images and thirty-five years of diaries that detailed life in eastern Montana at the turn of the 20th century.  Cameron photographed the changing face of Montana – horses and cattle drives, sheep herding, the wool trade, the railroad, and the arrival of homesteaders.  Wednesday, October 19, 7-9pm there will be an opening reception and a screening of the Montana PBS Documentary, Evelyn Cameron:  Pictures from a Worthy Life.

The reception will take place from 7:00pm – 7:45pm in the Paxson Gallery of the UM PARTV Building.  The screening will take place 7:45 – 8:45pm in the Montana Theater of the UM PARTV Building. Q & A to follow

ARTISTS NEEDED:

The Artists’ Collective, a student run organization, seeks to help art students promote their work and become more professional artists.  Their goals are to strengthen the Missoula Art Scene, become a forceful organization on campus, and to open a student run gallery.  Get involved and join the Artists’ Collective this Fall!  The group will meet Thursdays at 6:30pm in FA 304.

The 11th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition will be held form Novemeber 4th to the 18th.  The Deadline for submissions is Novemeber 1st.  CASH PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED! Contact the Gallery of Visual Arts for more information at 243-2813.

The UC Art Gallery is calling all artists! If you would like your work to be displayed in the UC, stop by the Art Office or The Source for an application.  The deadline for application submission is Oct. 21st. 

Camas, “A thought provoking and informative literary journal produced by the Environmental Studies Department of the University of Montana,? is seeking art and photo submissions for its Fall 2005 issue.  The deadline is Oct. 15, 2005.  More info is available at their website: www.umt.edu/camas
