Art Department News:

Students: be aware that Advising has begun for Spring Semester. You must meet with your advisor in order to recieve your advising PIN for registration. A list of students and their advisors is posted outside the Art Department’s offices.

The tour is advertised at $1899. and with taxes, visas and fees plus airfare Missoula to SF. the total will be about $2500.
16 people are currently signing up for the tour. We would like to have a group of 20 participants. Students, friends, parents, and neighbors are welcome.

There are folders of information available in Professor Bruya’s office..303B A Missoula resident returned from a Yale Alumni tour of China this month. Her tour was very similar for a much higher cost. She sent her reading list which is available outside Prof. Bruya’s office door. Join the adventure!

The UC Gallery is now accepting proposals for solo and group exhibitions of contemporary fine art in all mediums, including digital and video art. A selection committee will review slides and select the exhibitions for the 2006 academic year. Interested artists can print a copy of the application, required material list, and gallery map from the website Applications are also available in the UC at The Sourse or outside the Art Department’s offices. The 11th Annual Juried Student Show will open on Friday, Nov 4th in the Gallery of Visual Arts. The awards will be announced at 6pm, stop by and congratulate the winners.

Art Department Undergrad Michael Gill will be hosting the opening reception of his exhibition “Fashion Accessories” at The Raven Cafe on Friday, Nov. 4th from 7-9pm, be sure to stop by and see this talented artist’s latest works.

“Underwater Images & Life Figure Drawings,” an exhibit by Brian Elling will be opening on Nov 4th in the Ceretana Gallery and Studios. Live music and food will be on hand from 5-9pm.

Sandra Trujillo will be giving a slide lecture in UC 326 on Friday, Nov. 4th from 4-5pm, then she will be in the UC Gallery to exhibit her works, “Quarry? for First Friday from 5-7pm.

Dirk Lee will exhibit, “The Beauty in Her,? in the Meloy Gallery from Oct. 26th to Dec 21st. The First Friday reception will be from 5-7 on Nov. 4th.

Thursday, November 10, at 7pm, The Montana Museum of Art & Culture presents a lecture with guest art historian, Professor James Leith titled The Louvre: From Palace to Museum. James Leith is Professor Emeritus of History and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He teaches at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. His lecture will examine the full history of the Louvre, from its origins as a fortress and royal palace, to its history under Charles V, to its current status as one of the world’s largest and most well-known museums. Brandon Wasser, an art major, is displaying his photographic works on his website and invites you to take a look. Bayern Brewery is looking for creative artwork to put on a label for a new beer called Boom Crew Ale. The grand prize is $200. Submit a drawing of a scene that combines “a grizzly bear and a cannon” for review in the art office before Nov 21st.

The Artists’ Collective, a student run organization, seeks to help art students promote their work and become more professional artists. Their goals are to strengthen the Missoula Art Scene, become a forceful organization on campus, and to open a student run gallery. Get involved and join the Artists’ Collective this Fall! The group will meet Thursdays at 6:30pm in FA 304.


Anita Jung will visit campus Nov. 3rd through the 9th. She will give a lecture in SS 356 on the 3rd at 7:30pm and give a demo in Jim Bailey’s Screen/Books class on Monday, Nov 7th from 1:10-3:00.
