Locations for BFA Review presentations are posted outside the Art Department’s main offices. Be sure to check the list and see where you will be displaying your works. All work must be installed by 9.00am Tuesday, Spetember 26 and removed after 6.00pm that day.
Call to Artists:
The Holter Museum of Art invites proposals of forceful, critical works of art in response literature for the Museum’s 2008 exhibition “Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate“ Artists are invited to transform, incorporate or otherwise resopnd to books of hate propoganda published by the “World Church of the Creator,” volumes that are currently owened- and put out of circulation- by the Montana Human Rights Network. Students in Professor Brad Allen’s Sculture II class have created “The Big Cheese,” an installation in the Off Center Gallery in the Art Annex. Check it out, it’s got to bethe biggest peice of cheese you’ve ever seen.
Several members of the Art Department Faculty have their works on display at the newly remodeled Missoula Art Museum, be sure to check out the new space and the great work of your professors. Here are some pics:
Art Department Graduate Student Linda McCray is displaying her works at the University Congregational Church until October 1st. You can visit Linda’s website by clicking here. Dr. Rafael Chacón is the curator. Linda will speak at the church on Sunday, September 24 at 12pm.
The Art Department is proud to announce Peet Cocke will participating in the exhibition “Changing Current: Altered Landscapes” that will open in the GVA on Thursday, September 28. Mr. Cocke will lecture from 4-5pm in Social Science 356 and attend the opening reception in the GVA from 5-7pm. For more info on Peet Cocke, click here.
The Art Department’s student group, The Artists’ Collective, is looking for members to help organize fun and exciting art related events throughout the year. The group meets every Monday from 12.15-1.00pm in the office of the Department Chair, Mary Ann Papanek-Miller.
Art Department Faculty as Artists and Scholars:
Professor of sculpture, Brad Allen, will be displaying his work in an exhibition entitled , “American Diaspora” at the Victory Hall Cultural Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. The openeing reception will be held on Friday, October 20th, with the exhibit running through November 19th. Keungsuk K. Sexton is the curator.
Professor Allen is currently part of the Art Institute & Gallery National Juried Show in Salisbury, Maryland where he won an honorable mention for his piece titled “Haystone.” Gerald Ross from the Maryland Institute of Art was the curator and judge. Congratulations, Brad.
Professor and Chair Mary Ann Papanek-Miller has two works included in the “National Drawing Exhibition 2006″ at Impact Artists’ Gallery in Buffalo, NY. The exhibit opens Septemeber 20th and runs until October 27th. M. Parker was the juror.
Art professor Bobby Tilton has work included in a two person exhibition with Mardis Nenno at the Lorinda Knight Gallery in Spokane, WA. The exhibit runs until September 30th. Art Department professor Beth Lo played live music at the August 11 opening reception.
