The University Center Art Exhibits is accepting applications for 2-D and 3-D artwork to display throughout the UC. The deadline has been extended to Thursday, November 30th. Pick up an application at The Source, the Art Annex, outside the Art Department’s main offices, or call Jess at 243.4991. Please note this is not an application for gallery exhibitions.
The Art Department’s 12th Annual Juried Student Art Show will run from Nov. 28th-Dec. 13th with an opening and award reception on Thursday, Nov 30 from 5-7pm. The awards will be presented at 6pm. Professor Rafael Chacón’s students presented the second tableau vivant of the season on November 9th. Jeff King, Amber Wock, and Steve Lund re-enacted Anne-Louis Girodet’s Entombment of Atala. Kevin Wright and Lucy Beard described the story behind the great picture.
The Montana Museum of Art & Culture is hosting two new and exciting exhibits, “Children of the Permanent Collection” and “Children’s Art from the Community” The exhibits will be on display at the museum’s Meloy and Paxson galleries (PAR-TV building) until Dec 23. There will be a lecture by Susan Swierc, PhD, titled “The Development of Creativity in Children” on Thursday, November 16 at 7pm, the lecture is free and open to the public in the Meloy Gallery.
Art Deaprtment graduate students Kathy Rodriguez and Eva Champagne will be presenting works in an invitational exhibition titled, “10 x 10,” an annual small format show (10″x 10″) at the Amelia Tapper Center for the Arts Gallery of the Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. The exhibit opens on the 17th of November.
The Art Department’s student group, The Artists’ Collective, is looking for members to help organize fun and exciting art related events throughout the year. The group meets every Monday from 12.15-1.00pm in the office of the Department Chair, Mary Ann Papanek-Miller
Art Department Faculty as Artists and Scholars:
Professor of sculpture, Brad Allen, will be displaying his work in an exhibition entitled , “American Diaspora” at the Victory Hall Cultural Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. The exhibit will run through November 19th. Keungsuk K. Sexton is the curator.
Professor Lo is currently displaying works in Asian Influences in Contemporary Ceramics at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania until Dec. 6th and at the grand opening of the Jessie Wilber Gallery in the Emerson Center of the Arts in Bozeman, that show is titled “Figure.Place.Space” and runs through Dec. 30th.
Art Department Professor and Chair Mary Ann Papanek-Miller is showing works in a national juried virtual exhibition titled, “Beyond the Night: Rites and Awakenings” at the Caladan Gallery in Beverly, MA. The gallery describes Professor Papanek-Miller’s work as “…blend[ing] innocence and irony running parallel to the interplay of form.” Visit the gallery’s website for more info.
