It’s the last First Friday of summer and we are all excited about the opening receptions in town.
Head on over to the Missoula Art Museum to hear local artist Peter Keefer speak about his recent works that tell stories of “The Great War.” Mr. Keefer creates collage drawings/photographs. The artist speaks at 7pm. MAM has exhibitions on display in its six galleries, delicious wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. Admission is always free and the experience is always wonderful.
Our friends at The Clay Studio of Missoula are hosting “Soda Salt National V,” a group exhibition of ceramics artists whose submissions were chosen by School of Art Director Julia Galloway. Expect to find world class art, and the studio’s signature treat, Goldfish Crackers as you mingle with artists and community members. The Clay Studio of Missoula is located at 1106 Hawthorne St. Call them at 406.543.0509 if you have questions.
The Catalyst (111 N. Higgins) is hosting the opening reception of two UM School of Art alumni. Check out the work of Cathryn Sugg (MFA 2010) and Jonathan Marquis (BFA 2006). Their eclectic works, collectively known as “Patterns of Identity,” are sure to intrigue even the most seasoned First Friday visitor. Rumor has it that this could be the last First Friday reception at the Catalyst, so be sure to show up and support this Missoula tradition.
Ceretana Studios (801 Sherwood) will be open late, 5-11pm, exhibiting works by ladypajama and Josh Ludwick. Besides the art on the walls there will also be open participation performance art. The band Infernal Machine will be playing at 9pm.
