According to weather.com it’s going to be a warm, yet rainy First Friday in Missoula this evening. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for the art community:
School of Art graduate students invite you to visit their alternative exhibition venue in the alley behind the Old Post Pub. FrontierSpace will feature several artists this First Friday. Join them in welcoming the works of Nicole Jean Hill, Lee Emma Running, and Meredith Lynn in an exhibition titled Divine Providence. The reception will run from 5-9pm.
Our friends at Radius are hosting another great exhibition for First Friday and invite you to join them for a three person show featuring works by retired School of Art Professor Beth Lo, School of Art alumna Pam Caughey and Sean O’Connell from the Red Lodge Clay Center. Here’s the skinny on the artists:
Hamilton-based artist Pamela Caughey returns to Radius with a new body of highly expressive, abstract works in cold wax and encaustic.
Beth Lo, a Missoula-based ceramist, extends her supremely endearing “Good Children” series of sculptural and functional works.
Sean O’Connell specializes in kitchenware that combines contemporary decorative motifs and utilitarian forms. O’Connell is also the Education and Communications Coordinator at Red Lodge Clay Studio.
The reception will run from 4-8pm.
Art major Alasdair Lyon will have new works on display at Clyde. Join him and his band Go Hibiki from 5-8pm for Internal Variables, a collection of multimedia paintings. These works serve as a visual exploration and understanding of the internal self as we move throughout our lives.
School of Art alum David Miles Lusk will be at Noteworthy Paper and Press for a First Friday reception featuring his latest prints. David, of Anomal press, is a local block printer who is inspired by the intersection of science and mythology, and nature & humanity. His work is full of wonderful detail and boldness. Each print is hand carved, hand inked, and printed one at a time. Join him from 5-8pm.
School of Art alumna Katie Machain will have work on display at Bernice’s. She says of the show, “I’m so excited to share the release of my new series of woodcuts! Come and join me for a glass of wine and bakery deliciousness during the First Friday art walk. I will also have a one time sale on all original prints in the series, and more!” Join Katie from 5-8pm.
Our friends over on Hawthorne Street have quite the show going on! International Cup 2018 at the Clay Studio of Missoula, is an exhibition showcasing ceramic work that explores the infinite possibilities of the idea of a cup. Juried by Sue Tirrell – a nationally recognized potter from Montana – works by 40 artists have been selected from over 135 entries from all around the world. Accepted works are from the United States, Canada, and Netherlands.
The exhibition will be on display until February 23, 2018. The First Friday reception will be from 5:30-9pm.
The MAM will be closed for First Friday as they make final preparations for their annual auction.
