Faculty Exhibition, Lecture, and First Friday!

The academic year is underway! Join us for some great art events on and off campus this week.

FACULTY LECTURE:

Art History Professor Valerie Hedquist will present a lecture titled, “Spiritual Comfort and Charitable Healing in Ter Brugghen’s Saint Sebastian Tended by Ireneon Thursday, September 4 from 5:10-6:00 in Social Science room 356. This lecture is part of the Gilbert Millikan Faculty Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

FACULTY EXHIBITION:

The School of Art’s Annual Faculty Exhibition opens on Wednesday, September 3 with a reception immediately following Professor Hedquist’s lecture. Join us in the Gallery of Visual Arts to see the latest works by our talented instructors. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

For over four years, School of Art graduate students have run a small gallery space behind the Old Post Pub called “FrontierSpace.” For September’s First Friday, the FrontierSpace team will host their first ever silent auction as a fundraiser celebration. Join art lovers from all over as they bid, silently, on over 50 pieces of art. School of Art alum Jack Metcalf (MFA 2013) will be screen printing t shirts. The event will begin at 5:00 pm and run until 8:30.

THE BRINK:

School of Art 2D Technician and Adjunct Instructor Jason Clark will present his latest works in an exhibition titled, “Repeat Offenders” at the Brink Gallery (111 W. Front St.) until September 27. A First Friday reception will be held from 5-8 pm on September 5th.

Missoula Art Museum:

Head over to the MAM for an exhibit of works by Helen McAuslan. Best known for her series of paintings inspired by the shooting deaths of four students at Kent State University, her modernest exhibition seeks to inspire a dialogue surrounding the Vietnam experience. Her paintings are reflective of the cultural fabric and inspired human passion of the time. The First Friday reception will include a gallery talk by Art History Professor H. Rafael Chacón, whose biographical text accompanies the exhibition. The reception will run from 5:00 to 8:00, with Dr. Chacón’s talk at 7:00.

McAuslanMissoula Community Access Television:

Our friends at MCAT (500 N. Higgins) are hosting an exhibition of works by Tracy Pray along with a musical performance by “Aristotle.” Stop by MCAT between 5 and 8 to enjoy the art, music and snacks.

Tracy PrayArtists’ Collective:

The University of Montana’s ASUM student group, The Artists’ Collective, is made up of students majoring in art and other subjects. Their first meeting of the academic year will take place on Monday, September 8 at noon in the Painting Studio. All UM students are welcome to attend this informational meeting.
