Before we get into all the First Friday stuff, we have an exciting announcement from our friend Jack Metcalf!
Real Good Studio:
This Thursday, April 2, School of Art alum and current Adjunct Jack Metcalf will again host a spectacle at his private studio space, Real Good. Join Jack and friends as we celebrate the talents of Bobby Lee Springfield. From Jack’s media release:
“We at Real Good are fortunate to have the infamous Bobby Lee Springfield to perform an intimate interview and musical set. If you do not know Bobby, you need to know Bobby. He is one of the most interesting conversationalist I have ever encountered, he wears at least three pair of pants at all times, his reality doesn’t touch anyone’s “surreality,” and Bobby probably has written more chart topping hits than anyone realizes. Bobby was recently featured in a short film; you can watch it HERE.
The night of the performance we will be printing posters on the letterpress, and apparel on the cylinder press, the public is encouraged to bring a shirt. Light snacks and beverages will be available. The event is titled, “An Evening with the Boy King: Bobby Lee Springfield” and it will begin at 9:00 at Real Good Studio (1205 Defoe St #1), located across from the Clay Studio of Missoula, behind the creepy yellow van.
Partly cloudy skies and a high of 54 degrees are predicted for April’s First Friday. Let’s take a look at what’s planned for our art community!
School of Art graduate students maintain an alternative gallery space downtown in the alley behind the Old Post Pub. Stop by FrontierSpace this First Friday to experience the latest from School of Art alum Burke Jam. Burke describes the installation as follows, “A sine wave installation for 3-dimensional space in 12 channels, triggered by audience movement. This work consists of 12, 6”x3”x2” motion detecting sound units. Each unit is independently programmed with a pre-determined sine and independently powered . Each are battery powered and function independently after being switched to ‘on.'”
Missoula Community Access Television:
Our friends over at MCAT are hosting a First Friday reception to welcome Sean Terry and his latest works. Mr. Terry describes himself as a Northwest Fine Arts Photographer. Head over to 500 North Higgins to see his photos from 5-7 pm this First Friday.
The Brink Gallery:
First Friday at The Brink is going to be a bit unusual! Local artist and life coach Nathan Mc Tauge will be occupying the space as part of his living installation performance piece. For much more information on the piece we recommend this great article from our friends at the Missoula Independent.
The Missoula Art Museum:
Our friends at MAM have a wonderful First Friday evening planned for us this month. Theo Ellsworth describes himself as a self-taught artist and cartoonist living with his family in Montana. Plus, he claims to work in a Thought Cloud Factory! Theo was recently featured in a short film; you can watch it HERE. We are very excited to check out his exhibition and hear him speak at 7:00 pm this First Friday. The event will also feature tasty snacks and live DJs from KBGA.
We hope to see all of our friends out for an enjoyable and educational First Friday!
