FrontierSpace:
School of Art graduate students continue to host awesome artists at their alternative gallery in the alley behind the Old Post Pub. This month they are happy to present the woks of Koral Halperin.
From Koral’s artist statement, “Political, social, sexual and nonsensical ideas are all brought to life through these playful objects. I hope to inspire the progression of light heartedness, to those who have forgotten the importance of play, and dick jokes. And for those who have not forgotten, good job, spread it around. I hope we never grow up. That we forever exercise our childish side.”
The reception will be from 5-9pm

Radius Gallery:
Our friends at Radius invite you to their Bird Fest exhibition. In co-hoots with MT Audubon Society’s annual Bird Festival, Radius is exhibiting some of the most wonderful celebrations of our winged friends. Their First Friday reception will be held from 4-8 pm.

Le Petit Outre:
School of Art alum David Miles Lusk (BFA 2014) will present his latest works at an opening reception at Le Petit at 5pm this First Friday. Dog’s American Dream will show us what David imagines American dogs are really chasing. Picket fences. The freedom of the long highway. A chicken in every pot, no doubt. Real Good Art Space:
Is Jack Metcalf an insane genius or just a guy with lots of time on his hands? Serious question. [Whynotbot.jpg] Either way, he has invited us all to Things Fall Apart this First Friday and given the history of what happens at Real Good, it’s going to raise more questions than it answers.
Jack tell us, “Things Fall Apart is a retrospective of sorts, probably premature, definitely incomplete. Through the wide lens, everything is ephemeral. Nothing lasts forever. All matter has a half-life. What once was, is now or is soon to be different. Time and place does not allow hindsight to be 20/20. Things Fall Apart showcases just that. One individual’s multiple approaches to art projects, both completed and abandoned, only to show the wear and tear that is inevitable.
LOVE YOU GUYS AND GALS, MEAN IT. I also am pretty sure we will have a Bingo performance, and food truck.” So, yeah, see you there!

Missoula Art Museum:
Our friends over at MAM hosting the opening reception for Karen McAlister Shimoda‘s Field Notes this First Friday from 5-8pm. Shimoda moved from Missoula to Portland, OR at the beginning of 2015. During her daily walks in this new environment, she took notes to learn the flora of the unfamiliar forest and as a diary of observations. The observations and patterns worked their way into her art practice and are on display in this solo exhibition titled Field Notes.
